Membership Meeting 3/25
During our March Membership Meeting, we had the pleasure of hearing from Paul Wilson, known as “The Blind Farmer,” who shared his experience using Meta Glasses. Supporting the discussion were Myra McCloud, Former District Governor, and Tyra Thompson from the Vision Resource Center.
We also enjoyed an informative presentation from Scott Stephenson, Zone 3 Chair, who spoke about the impactful work of the Boys & Girls Club of North Carolina and presented 6 Chevron Awards.
In addition to our guest speakers, we had Lion Kathleen Jack presented the Fantastic Finds Thrift Store, one of our monthly service projects.

Meta Glasses
Paul Wilson shared with us his experience with his meta glasses. Paul is a blind farmer who resides on 48 acres of farmland in Warfield, VA. He stressed the importance of his meta glasses and explained how he is able to freely move about his farm. His glasses have been a game changer and can help him read labels, tell the difference in seeds that is planting, and help with navigation.
Myra also voiced her support for Meta glasses, noting their significant benefits for individuals who are visually impaired. She pointed out that their effectiveness depends on a user’s level of technological familiarity, as well as access to a smartphone and the internet. She also stated that Lens Crafters offers training for those who purchase their meta glasses at their store. She would like for Lions to have the same training to assist the visually impaired set-up their glasses.
Tyra Thompson was also in attendance to testify that the meta glasses have a significant impact on the blind.

Chevron Awards
Scott shared that he has raised $35,680 toward the approximately $50,000 goal needed to purchase a van for the Home—an exciting milestone for the project.
He also reviewed the beautification project planned for the cottage this year and encouraged members to participate in “Spring Civic Club Day” on March 28 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
He also thanked our club for all we had done for the Boys & Girls Club.
Additionally, Scott presented six Chevron Awards recognizing Lions who have reached milestone years of service with the club. The recipients included Lion Sydney Brooks; Kathy and Don Harris; Robert Barney; and Carol and Rick Foster, each of whom received a commemorative pin.

Fantastic Finds
Fantastic Finds Thrift Store, located in Lillington, NC, is operated by SAFE, a nonprofit organization that supports victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

The WHLC proudly supports Fantastic Finds by assisting with a variety of tasks, including:

Hanging and organizing clothing

Changing air filters

Displaying pictures on walls

Assembling shelves for merchandise

Helping during monthly Dollar Days events
We have supported this organization for the past 4 years.
